When a gal dresses for success, it sometimes entails a bit of flattery. Ivy rightly guessed that nothing is more flattering than the right shade of pink in the right weight of soft wool flannel. "Pearls and Pink" is a celebration of classic tailoring and perfect proportion from the crown of the soft pork pie hat down to the white platform pumps. A softly tailored jacket, cut in the front like men's tails, covers a sleeveless cream satin bodice and is coupled with a pencil thin skirt, trimmed at the waist with bright pink buttons (also repeated on the jacket). White elbow length gloves and a three strand pearl bracelet complete the look and echo the ivory pearls at the lapel, ears and neckline. A sophisticated polish is the impression of "Pearls and Pink".

It could be the hotter than usual weather that explains why Violet Waters is such a sensation in this gown. Or then again, it could be a combination of things. The short sleeved, bare midriff top is a logical starting point, jeweled and tasseled at the bust and bared to just above the navel. This bright flame red hairstyle with bangs and short flip was her public reaction to signing for the Technicolor extravaganza of the same name.
Her favorite costumer at the studio was brave enough to suggest that when she signs the contract for the publicity cameras,
she wear this black cocktail dress as her attire.
The fitted taffeta bodice and (way) off the shoulder neckline, coupled with a two-strand 'diamond' necklace,
offers the camera only the ravishing face of Madra Lord for closeups. At the same time, the elaborately ruched,
full skirt was unique enough to guarantee at least one long shot for the reel.
The fuchsia gloves were Madra's idea, as a way of making sure her 'gorgeous arms' were a focus of the colorful occasion.

Her red satin evening gown claimed a daringly draped decollete atop a narrow skirt exploding into a deep pink taffeta overskirt and train.
Ivy's jewelry that night consisted of a ruby necklace with matching earrings and bracelet
and it was noted by more than one person that the jewels being worn sparkled no more than the star wearing them.
Pink opera length gloves and strapped, red patent sandals complete Ivy's Cinderella story.
